Sydney's original casino resort
The Star opened in 1997 as Star City Casino and was rebranded The Star in 2011 after a major renovation. For most of its history it was the only full casino licensed to operate in the city, and it remains the only one with a walk-in public gaming floor — Crown Sydney's is members-only, by contrast.
Getting there from the road
Pyrmont sits right against Darling Harbour, so a Star stopover doubles easily as a Sydney city day — harbour walks, the aquarium precinct and the CBD are all within easy reach without needing to move the rig again.
A practical Sydney base
If your lap has you doing Sydney as a multi-day city break rather than a drive-through, The Star's two towers (The Darling and the Astral Tower) give you a fixed base to work from while you tick off the rest of the harbour.
